In Can't Swim, a figure leans over the lip of a pale pool against a dark background.2 The work belongs to Life In West America by Roope Rainisto, released on 8 February 2023.2,3 It sits among the BrainDrops holdings of yankov.eth, the name OpenSea shows on a profile linked to the X account YankovETH.4,5 Those holdings stretch across nearly the whole run of releases, and three of them mark a passage through AI generated art: Rainisto's series, ClownVamp's Detective Jack: The Cold Case on 18 September 2023, and Infiniteyay's New Realities on 28 June 2024.4,3,6,7 Each turns generative tools toward a different story: an imagined photographic record of America, a serialised mystery, and worlds built openly from shared images.8,9,10

Rainisto describes the series as a post photography project about America, covering the land as a concept, the land as an ideal, and the stories of the people who live there.8 BD5D says the images resemble colour photographs of the American West from the middle of the twentieth century, with almost every one containing something no camera could have recorded.3 Rainisto has said that every piece was given its own narrative and a title, and BD5D reads those short, oblique titles as captions that hint at a story without telling it.3 Can't Swim suits that habit. It names a limit of the body rather than a place or a person, and in a project about land as idea and ideal, the picture sends the eye to water, where footing is the first thing to go.2,8 The work is classed as Union in Form and Landscape in Orientation.2

Distance sharpens the title. Rainisto is a Finnish artist, designer and photographer who has acknowledged visiting the United States only a handful of times.3 BD5D reads the series as an America assembled from film stills, magazine spreads and road trip photography circulating worldwide, rather than from first hand observation.3 The project description says the collection joins the visual language of traditional photography with the boundless artifice of AI, using models trained specially for the project.2,8 BD5D adds that those models were fine tuned with Dreambooth, and that Rainisto worked with familiar versions of Stable Diffusion.3 Against that artifice, a title admitting a plain bodily limit reads as a counterweight, a caption for what the mythology of the West cannot carry.2,8

Drifter Diner shows a roadside diner under pink clouds in a wide expanse of sky.11 It comes from Detective Jack: The Cold Case, framed as the case file of Detective Jack Crimson, who never solved the disappearance of Tiffany Abbington in 1961, the night before he planned to propose.11,9 The file is sorted into categories running from Memories to Dreams, and this work falls under Locations.11,9 Its case note, written in Jack's voice, calls the diner a lone refuge in empty country, recalls many cups of poor coffee on drives to Vegas while waiting for someone claiming to have information, and warns that the waitress, Sally, knows more than she lets on.11 The setting becomes a lead. Its traits name the Main Character as Building and the Team as Unknown, and BD5D explains that such traits sort the cast into factions and name whom each image is about, so the diner takes the central role while its allegiance stays unassigned.11,6 With the KGB and CIA obstructing the search and the name of John F. Kennedy surfacing repeatedly, that unresolved affiliation reads as one more open question in the file.9

According to an nft now profile published shortly before the release, ClownVamp is a pseudonymous artist based in New York, and the release is a prequel to an earlier Detective Jack branching adventure begun on Tezos.6 The artist traced the idea to childhood reading of mystery books with branching plots, along with the Hardy Boys.6 The artist also described printing the images and laying them across a dining table to find their groupings, with the aim that every piece should add to the story.6 BD5D characterises the look as flat, saturated illustration from the middle of the twentieth century, closer to a paperback cover or a period advertisement than to film noir, and notes that the release invites reading rather than action, spreading the story among its holders.6 On that account, holding this roadside stop means holding one location in a case that no single collector possesses in full.6

In Search Of Friends places a woman in profile among dense panels of figures and brightly coloured buildings.12 It comes from New Realities, which the release frames as an exploration of an emerging era in which AI lets people shape the world according to their imaginations, dreams and desires.12,10 The release locates its possibilities in the shared visual history held within the latent space of AI.10 BD5D reads the edition as old pictures recombined, crowded with images within images, and points to titles such as Show All Tabs and Stay In Touch that borrow the language of screens.7 Against a promise of boundless possibility, this title describes a search still underway, with friends sought rather than found, and it sits among phrases of connection.12,7 OpenSea describes Infiniteyay as a Japan based American artist working in a magical realism style, and the artist has spoken of wanting scenes that feel as if something is happening, and of drawing inspiration from travelling with family.7 BD5D therefore reads the edition as concerned with memory as much as with technology.7

Across the three releases, place recurs in different registers: America as land and ideal, a roadside diner on the way to Vegas, and imagined worlds shaped by dreams and desires.8,11,10 Each picture also holds its subject at a threshold, a body at the pool's edge, a diner where Jack waits for tips, a woman set among many figures.2,11,12 Held together within yankov.eth's wide run of BrainDrops works, these pieces chart a path between February 2023 and June 2024, from simulated photography through serialised fiction to openly declared recombination.4,3,6,7
