Life In West America

The work in context

Life In West America borrows the visual authority of American colour photography while retaining the distortions of a generative system. Its apparently familiar people and places invite recognition, then frustrate it. Rainisto describes those artefacts as belonging to a brief, valuable stage in the technology’s development. [1][2]

Construction and process

The artist documents private DreamBooth-trained models, approximately 35,000 initial images and 15,000 inpainting images, followed by upscaling and hand editing for a 500-work collection. The release site records a 0.1 ETH mint on 8 February 2023 and says it sold out in about a minute. These are artist-reported production and mint figures. [1][2][3]

Release and mint

The official catalogue dates this release to 2023-02-08. At the 2026-10-13 check, the platform reported 500 minted works against a maximum of 500. Those equal figures establish the platform’s reported count, not how quickly the edition sold or who performed the mints. [1]

The artist’s site reports a 0.1 ETH mint and a sell-out in around one minute; BD5D has not independently reconstructed every mint transaction. [2]

Token and preservation

This release uses the shared BrainDrops Ethereum contract. Its official project identifier is 15; the archive matches token IDs to projects and checks ownership at a fixed block. The contract record, token metadata and displayed media are separate parts of the object. [4][5]

BD5D stores optimised still previews, and preserves original media links in its catalogue. The evidence assembled here does not establish that the generative model, its training data, or the full-resolution artwork bytes execute or reside on Ethereum.
