Roope Rainisto's BrainDrops holdings include Hand-Me-Down Hopes, a portrait in which a woman seen in profile is so densely dressed in flowers that her hair and clothing merge into one blossoming mass against a clouded sky.2,3 Rainisto is also an artist of the platform, having created Life In West America for BrainDrops, so these are works by other artists held by someone who has released on the same stage.4 In mid-October 2026 the collection spanned a wide range of BrainDrops releases, and three of its works, by KaliYuga, Chikai and Infiniteyay, are the subject here.2 The public collecting profile carries the plain name r-ledger, which suits a collection better read through its objects than through any declaration.5 Read together, the three works share an interest in faces assembled from other pictures, yet each reaches the face by a different route.3,6,7

KaliYuga released The Spaces Between Words on 14 June 2023 as a series of collage portraits, and it sold out on the day.8 The release frames the series as a mixed-media exploration of memory, emotion and identity that finds an intricate topography in the gaps and nuances of inner life.9 Across the edition, portraits seem built from torn paper, photographs, newsprint, embroidery and flowers, usually set against a plain coloured ground.8 Hand-Me-Down Hopes breaks from that plainness.3,8 Its recorded attributes name a simple terrain background and a desert setting, and the clouded sky gives the profile somewhere to stand rather than a flat field to float on.3 It is a solo portrait with a print overlay, and it is listed as heartless, carrying no heart motif.3 The title's hand-me-down sits easily with all that covering, as though the flowers were a garment passed along rather than chosen.3

KaliYuga is better known as a maker of tools than of editions, with public notebooks for image models named after pixel art, watercolour and lithography.8 No source states how The Spaces Between Words was made, so those notebooks stand as context rather than method.8 Still, that documented interest in the look of physical media sharpens how the series presents itself, as collage whose paper, thread and petals are all held in one continuous surface.9,8 In Hand-Me-Down Hopes the effect is quiet and sculptural, a single head held in profile and dressed as if for a ceremony nobody names.3

Chikai's Desparately seeking cool moves the face from open air into a domestic wall of pictures.6 Anthrocinematica, first released on 29 March 2024, is a collection of looping videos, each zooming in on a single photograph from a wall of photographs inside a room set in one of several countries.10,11 Every room exists twice, once hung with pictures of Japan and once with pictures of the United States, a doubling the release ties to the artist's own multicultural heritage.10 This work is set in an Ethiopian living room whose wall carries photographs of Japan, and its subject is recorded as a man.6 At its centre, several overlapping photographs surround a portrait of a young person in a jacket and tie, and the neat formality of that tie plays wryly against the title's anxious pursuit of cool.6 Across the series the camera opens close on one framed photograph, pulls back to the crowded wall, and returns so that the end meets the beginning.11

Chikai is a Japanese-American filmmaker credited as a co-creator of Google Earth, and describes a practice of cinematic work that builds layered narratives with generative models and workflows.11 The edition's camera move is where that cinematic habit becomes visible, turning a still archive into a shot that keeps losing and finding its subject.10,11 The same Ethiopian living room recurs elsewhere in the series, so the room behaves like a set to which the camera returns with a different face in view.11 Placed beside Hand-Me-Down Hopes, the difference is plain without captions.3,6 KaliYuga's figure is solitary, held in profile and wrapped in petals beneath an open sky, while Chikai's sitter is boxed among frames indoors and set moving by a lens that will not let any single picture stay alone for long.3,6,11

Infiniteyay's Realizations, from New Realities, first released on 28 June 2024, is the latest of the three and the most crowded.7,12 A hand covers part of a face beside a dense cluster of small, brightly coloured objects, so a gesture of concealment meets a heap of things clamouring to be seen.7 The release presents the series as an exploration of an era in which imagination, dreams and desire shape the world, drawing on a collective visual history.13 Across the edition, saturated scenes multiply screens, signs and pictures until the boundary between an image and the world it shows begins to give way.12 The work's record lists nothing beyond its collection, artist and file format, which suits an edition offered as individual pictures rather than a system of variations.7,12 Its title folds the collection's name into one private instant, and the half-hidden face reads as the moment something dawns.7,13

Infiniteyay is a Japan-based American artist who worked traditionally before turning to image generators, and who describes a magical realist style and a habit of making very large numbers of images before sorting them by hand.12 Set against KaliYuga's single garlanded profile and Chikai's framed sitter, Realizations swaps stillness and order for glare and crowding, with the face half hidden behind a hand.3,6,7 Held together, the three works trace a year on BrainDrops, from a collage portrait in mid-2023 to a looping wall of photographs in March 2024 and a teeming still that June.8,11,12 Each pictures a person through an accumulation of other images, whether petals laid over a profile, frames pinned around a portrait or bright objects pressed against a covered face.3,6,7 For a collector who has also made a BrainDrops release, the grouping sets Rainisto beside peers whose methods diverge sharply even where their subject converges.2,4
