In kaulana’s Restrictions of the mind, one figure sits in the middle of a square. Tiny standing figures line its edges.² Above them the sky turns in loose spirals, and a green form hangs in the air with nothing obvious holding it up.² The work is Restrictions of the mind, a landscape PNG whose own Artist field credits Xander Steenbrugge within his DreamScapes series.² Its title leans on what the eye already notices, since the centre is spacious enough for a single seated figure, while the crowd stays pressed to the margins.² It was already in kaulana’s wallet on the day DreamScapes opened.³

A different interior arrives with Crypto Dreams, a portrait work in which a pale, faceted form like a sail hangs high in a tall dark room.⁴ Beneath it sit dark silhouettes and a pool of light. The brighter passage draws the eye into a room that is otherwise difficult to make out.⁴ Where Restrictions of the mind spreads its people across an open square, this image stacks its elements upward and puts the strangest object at the top.^2,4 The upright format suits that stacking, and the token records portrait as its aspect ratio, the one trait that varies across the series.^4,5 The title is the plainest of the three, taking the dream theme of the whole release and attaching it to the currency world in which these tokens circulate.^4,6 Its receipt into kaulana's wallet is logged at 17:27:22 UTC on 10 December 2021.⁷

The third work carries the longest title, On really romantic evenings of self I got salsa dancing with my confusion, and it comes closest to a remembered social scene.⁸ Couples move across a floor lit in warm tones, beneath pictures hung on the walls of a crowded room.⁸ Red and orange sweep through the clothing at the front of the image, so the dancers nearest the viewer carry the heat of the palette.⁸ Like Restrictions of the mind it is a landscape, but where that square isolates one seated body, this room packs bodies together and sets them moving.^8,2 The title reads like a sentence half recalled on waking, with both the self and the confusion cast as partners on the floor.⁸ It reached the wallet at 17:38:32 UTC on the same day, the last of the three to arrive.⁹

Read in order, the transfers trace three arrivals in less than half an hour.^3,7,9 Restrictions of the mind arrived first, at 17:10:48 UTC on 10 December 2021, followed by Crypto Dreams and then the dancing room within the next half hour.^3,7,9 That was the day DreamScapes opened, with its first token minted earlier in the same day.¹⁰ BD5D's account of the release describes a slow early phase followed by the remaining tokens being minted in four consecutive blocks around 17:00 UTC, while noting that the mechanism behind that split is unconfirmed.⁵ kaulana's receipts fall shortly after that burst, but a transfer only shows that a token landed at an address.^3,5 The gaps between them are short, yet the records do not say who sent any of the transfers or why.^3,9,7 None of them establishes a purchase, a price or a choice, so the timing describes when the works arrived rather than when, or whether, anyone decided to collect them.^3,9,7

Each of the three is a still image, recorded as a PNG with an empty animation field.^2,8,4 That matters because Steenbrugge has also made moving work, and in a 2022 interview about his separate film Exotic Contents he described estimating depth and reprojecting images to produce motion.¹¹ Nothing in these tokens points to that process, and the dancers here stay fixed in a single frame.^8,11 BD5D's history of the release treats DreamScapes as stills and observes that the titles carry much of the meaning that traits carry in other BrainDrops projects.⁵ The credit is equally direct, because each token's Artist field names Steenbrugge himself rather than a shared label, matching the artist named on the project page.^2,6 That page frames the series as a pursuit of dream imagery through machine learning, a theme the three titles answer in very different registers.^6,2,8,4

The address behind these works is the one BD5D lists under kaulana, and the SuperRare profile using that name points to the exact same address.^12,13 A named OpenSea account independently ties kaulana to it as well.¹⁴ At the fixed block BD5D used for its snapshot, the wallet's BrainDrops holdings consisted entirely of DreamScapes, a deep position in one artist's single series rather than a spread across the platform.^12,14 OpenSea's wider inventory shows other contracts beyond BrainDrops, so the concentration belongs to this corner of the wallet and not to everything it holds.¹⁴ Within that corner, the works separate through titles, formats and scenes rather than through any visible trait system.^5,12 That depth in one series makes the differences between individual titles more telling than any comparison across artists would be.^12,5

A last look at Crypto Dreams finds the contrast between the seated silhouettes and the glow, with the faceted sail hanging above.⁴ In Restrictions of the mind a related arrangement returns in another key, with the small standing people kept to the square's edge and the sky worked into curling bands.² What holds the eye there is the green form, suspended in that turning sky above the one figure in the square who has sat down.²
